about contour boxes

“Often without realising it landscapes can affect us quite deeply - where you live, where you walk, hike, sail or ski: we all have a story about some-where. Contour Boxes capture this connection. They are a tactile reminder of a special place.”

With just a place name Tom can find and recreate your specific piece of topography using special digital map data. From this any landscape in the world, and, indeed, pieces of the moon and Mars can be carved by a special machine to exceptionally high accuracy. Significant locations such as houses, chalets, hiking routes and villages can all be marked with a solid silver pin. Each box carries its own unique number and can be engraved inside the lid with a personal message.

This highly tailored approach, together with a timeless design makes a Contour Box a truly unique and personal gift, particularly for those hard to buy for. They make imaginative birthday, wedding and anniversary gifts as well as poignant commemorative objects that will hold special meaning to the owner for generations to come.

“I am drawn towards objects that have a timeless quality as well as stand the test of time. This is often because they are made from the right materials and encapsulate some sort of meaning. This makes them immediately precious, engaging and beautiful. “

British Materials

Wherever possible we endeavour to use natural, sustainably sourced materials and hardware made in the British Isles:

  • More often than not our timber is harvested from within the south-east of England, with ‘Grown In Britain’ or ‘FSE’ certified status and has a documented chain of custody.

  • Preferring not to rely on plastic lacquers our finishes are made from natural oils and can be easily repaired or replenished to prolong the lifetime of each box.

  • Box linings are currently a ‘vegan’ suede, however we are gradually introducing the use of wool fabrics manufactured within the British Isles.

  • Our metal hinges manufactured locally and have been designed specifically for Contour Boxes, allowing the wood to move without spoiling the box.

  • All silver markers and signature discs are are recycled ‘Ecosilver’.
